I did it becdause I didn't have internet at home to do a live draft as well. But after that draft, then for my next one I went to the library so I could do the live draft. Way better to do it live.
I agree with you. It's absolutely pointless. Isn't the point of FF to draft a team, not have someone (or something) else do it for you. No fun in autodrafting if you ask me.
for the first three rounds an auto draft may be succesful but after that they go to $H!T. If i would of auto-drafted i never would of got Chester Taylor in the 9th or Frank Gore in the 14th
QB- Carson Palmer, RB - Ronnie Brown, Frank Gore, jERIOUS nORWOOD, Kevin Jones WR - Anquan, Andre Johnson, Lavernus Coles, Brandon Marshal, Arnaz Battle TE - Chris Cooley K - Stephen Gotowski Def - Jax and Tampa
If you could put in a more detailed formula for the autodraft, it might work. I mean, I basically schedule my draft ahead of time and take my formula to the draft with me. But it contains a lot of "If..then" commands. By about the 6th round, I have about 3 lines of such text covering my strategy based on the numerous possibilities that might have happened in the first 5 rounds.
Just taking the next best player doesn't cut it...
Except in some cases that I've heard of where the league is spread out over several continents and a live draft is for all intents and purposes actually impossible, I don't think an autodraft is something that someone actually chooses but rather is something that you deal with because you have to. Obviously it's better to be there live and deal with all the runs and the tiers and filling out what positions you think are key, but sometimes it simply can't happen. Between friend and family commitments and traveling and work and whatever else, you can't always make every draft.
This year I did three baseball leagues and three football leagues and I had to miss one of my baseball drafts. The weekend it was set for I was going out of town to see my family and given normally, I only ever see them at Christmases and funerals, taking out three hours to log onto the internet and pick players just wasn't happening.
The real question is how can you think about this for days and never come up with a scenario where an autodraft became a necessity? There are things in life other than fantasy sports, you know.
Incidentally, autodrafting doesn't always equal death. I ended up dominating the league I autodrafted and there's two teams in my football auction league that got autodrafted because the owners didn't register with fantasyauctioneer before the start time and one of those teams is 6-1 and the other is 4-3. So you can do ok.
