Brees.... must start?

Postby Gnu314 » Mon Oct 30, 2006 12:49 pm

Has Brees reached must start status in NO?

Brees is quietly having a monster season, not mistake free, but very solid efforts.

I picked up up a few weeks ago off the wire after another owner dropped him for a bye week need thinking that with his quality passing games early in the season he might be a decent start from time to time playing matchups.

Yesterday he had a horrendous game against Baltimore and still notched up 14.5 points in my scoring and even more in more "standard" scoring formats. (the qb scoring in that league is odd)

Brees is a top 10 QB in every format, 7th in mine, but is he a studly start from here on out?

Last week, I benched him for the first time other than his bye week, respecting the Baltimore D. Unless he has a game in terrible weather conditions (e.g., the 12/24 game at the Meadowlands), I won't do so again.

Yeah same here, I actually benched him for Delhomme who netted me a whopping -5.5 points. I should still cruise to a win but I could have used the points.

Look at their schedule from here on out, its rough but manageable.

Sun 11/5 at Tampa Bay 1:00 pm - Decent but not the Tampa D of old
Sun 11/12 at Pittsburgh 4:15 pm - tough game, but Vick had is way two weeks ago so manageable
Sun 11/19 Cincinnati 1:00 pm - just plain lousy on defense
Sun 11/26 at Atlanta 1:00 pm - avg 237 yards allowed through the air, 3 TDs in last 3.
Sun 12/3 San Francisco 1:00 pm - allowing something rediculous like avg of 41 points in last 3 losses
Sun 12/10 at Dallas 1:00 pm - tough game but challengable secondary
Sun 12/17 Washington 1:00 pm - playing poorly
Sun 12/24 at NY Giants 1:00 pm - will depend on weather, beatable secondary.

Why would you bench Brees?

Colston has been performing like a top10 fantasy WR all year long. And the past 4 games, so has Joe Horn.

Two top10 fantasy WRs = success

Ask Kurt Warner/Josh McCown.

I traded away Jamal Lewis to get Brees before this week's games, and I was thinking Brees would just join my platoon, but he may become my outright starter from here on out - despite his tough schedule.
