Is Brandon Jacobs a Keeper Stud!

I'm debating going hard to get Brandon Jacobs. What will he do as a starter? I love the potential, but I see a guy who takes a ton of hits. Could he take a season?

Well, the thing is that the Giants have also talked about acquiring another RB which could keep Jacobs in the same role he has now. Michael Turner's name has been mentioned as someone they are interested in acquiring in the off-season. So right now he has potential, yes, but nothing's for sure.

My hunch is that the Giants are going to want to keep Jacobs in the role that he's already in. The buzz in NY is that they're looking to land Turner after the season.

there is about 10 teams that would want to land Turner. I think Turner will be in SD until 08 and his contract is up. I think Jacobs will be a monster

I expect Jacobs to see his opportunity and shed 25lb or so while getting quicker and developing his running sense. So overall, I think he'll be spectacular UNLESS his body can't take the hits, but this is all speculation. As a keeper, he's definitely top-15 RB.

There was never buzz in NY about the Giants going after Turner. It was Adam Schefter speculating on the NFL network and people just took it and ran with it. There is a similar thread about Jacobs in the Player Updates forum. I won't rehash the whole thing but all indications are that it will be Jacobs' job to lose. Jacobs has really showed promising ability but I think the big question is still going to be durability due to his frame and violent style.

25lbs. may be a bit much, but if he drops from 165 to 150, he can gain speed, increase his endurance and at the same time not lose too much power. I think his role will definitely increase next year and not be used the same way....more carries.

If he drops to 150, I don't think he'll be in the NFL anymore!

As a keeper, he's definitely top-15 RB.

I would say this is a bit much. IF the Giants said, "Yes, Tiki is retiring. No, we're not getting anyone else. Yes, that job is going to go to Jacobs." THEN I would say he would be a top-15 RB keeper. Until then, however, I'm not even sure if he makes the top 30. Without thinking too hard about this, and in no particular order, RBs > Jacobs for keeper right now.

So ok, around top-25 RB, keeperwise. But I'd still say gambling and probably at the bottom of the list of the five that I listed as similar. Since I would expect if any of those five got promoted for whatever reason, they'd be the sole back. Whereas I'm not so sure on that with Jacobs.

Long story short, if I had him I would trade him. If I didn't have him, I wouldn't get him. Hype is greater than reality at this point.

IF Tiki in fact does retire and IF Jacobs becomes the man, he is better than half of these guys. I also think the Chicago situation will clear up some next year as well.
