Browns coach: Grantham is an MSU candidate

November 15, 2006

Email this Print this Cleveland Browns head football coach Romeo Crennel confirmed that his defensive coordinator, Todd Grantham, is being considered to replace John L. Smith as Michigan State head coach.

"Todd's name has been thrown around in the Michigan State situation," Crennel told reporters. "It's not on me to say whether or not they've contacted him. It's their job. If they want to make an announcement, I'll let them do it."

Grantham was an MSU assistant under Nick Saban in 1996-98.

SPARTANS seek Mariucci's input

Former Lions coach Steve Mariucci told Fox Sports Radio Monday night that he met with MSU representatives for three hours last week -- but told them he wasn't interested.

"Most of the conversation really was regarding other candidates and how I can help them choose the right guy," Mariucci said. "I know they will. They've got quite a list put together and have done their homework.

Looks like you're getting Bearcats coach, Mark Dantonio up in Spartan town....Dantonio was the defensive coordinator for Ohio State's national championship team in 2002....This is a nice hire imo ;-D [/url]

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Mark Dantonio is leaving the University of Cincinnati to become the new coach at Michigan State.

The Michigan State Board of Trustees, in a special meeting Monday morning, unanimously approved a recommendation to hire Dantonio. The five-year contract guarantees Dantonio about $1.1 million a year. It also has a $200,000 signing bonus and incentives that could boost his income.
The school scheduled a noon EST news conference to introduce Dantonio.
