Favorite Serious Movie?

Postby pokeyjoe » Mon Nov 06, 2006 4:36 pm

I've noticed horror and comedy movie topics around the cafe, so I wanted to ask this: What're you guys favorite serious movies-you know, movies with a meaning behind them?

My personal favorite (and favorite movie overall) is Apocalypse Now. I love Marlon Brando and Robert Duvall and I love Francis Ford Coppola. All the metaphors and deeper meanings of the movie are great.

Right off the top of my head A river runs through it is an awesome movie as well as that other brad pitt movie with anthony hopkins and aiden quinn, ican't remember the name but he ends marrying the indian girl and running liquor. that's a nut shell.

Bingo. Shawshank is probably my favorite.

I wonder if Lord of the Rings qualifies in this category? It's a "serious" movie (well, at least the book was serious).

Due to the basketball scene I can't even count this as a serious movie.

My favorite serious movie is Day After Tomorrow. A chilling look at what the future holds if we don't do something about global warming.

One of my favorite serious movies that has come out in recent years is V for Vendetta. It was made by the guys that made the matrix but i like this movie A LOT more than the matrix trilogy.
