i simply use gradients over the render with some different stocks as backgrounds and while alot of the time it comes out looking alright it gets boring any ideas, and no I don't want to use brushes. thanks.
if anyone was confused, this is what my latest looks like, that is the technique I used on it.
The best advice I can give is to explore a site like DeadlyFireGFX to learn new stuff. Then go to a site w/ real experienced gfx makers like BBallCentral, and get some c+c or just admire the amazing work. Not sayin to leave the Cafe, and I'm sure you won't, but these sites will improve your GFXing.
