Postby Heimholder » Fri Nov 17, 2006 9:43 am

Didn't see anyone else post this yet. Just happened Tuesday - check out this crazy video clip:

So now the question is, since this was videotaped, does it become the next Rodney King or just fade away...

I can't look at it because I'm at work - the question is, is this guy White? If so, no on the Rodney King question.

If he's not White, he's got a chance at millions.

white, balck, hispanic, whatever race nationality, you really have to see it. there is cussing and screaming.

multiple cops one student this was a heinous act and abuse of power and weapons.

Never once did they say he was under arrest.

From the Daily Bruin

UCPD officers shot a student several times with a Taser inside the Powell Library CLICC computer lab late Tuesday night before taking him into custody.

No university police officers were available to comment further about the incident as of 3 a.m. Wednesday, and no Community Service Officers who were on duty at the time could be reached.

At around 11:30 p.m., CSOs asked a male student using a computer in the back of the room to leave when he was unable to produce a BruinCard during a random check. The student did not exit the building immediately.

The CSOs left, returning minutes later, and police officers arrived to escort the student out. By this time the student had begun to walk toward the door with his backpack when an officer approached him and grabbed his arm, at which point the student told the officer to let him go. A second officer then approached the student as well.

The student began to yell "get off me," repeating himself several times.

It was at this point that the officers shot the student with a Taser for the first time, causing him to fall to the floor and cry out in pain. The student also told the officers he had a medical condition.

UCPD officers confirmed that the man involved in the incident was a student, but did not give a name or any additional information about his identity.

Video shot from a student's camera phone captured the student yelling, "Here's your Patriot Act, here's your f**** abuse of power," while he struggled with the officers.

As the student was screaming, UCPD officers repeatedly told him to stand up and said "stop fighting us." The student did not stand up as the officers requested and they shot him with the Taser at least once more.

"It was the most disgusting and vile act I had ever seen in my life," said David Remesnitsky, a 2006 UCLA alumnus who witnessed the incident.

As the student and the officers were struggling, bystanders repeatedly asked the police officers to stop, and at one point officers told the gathered crowd to stand back and threatened to use a Taser on anyone who got too close.

Laila Gordy, a fourth-year economics student who was present in the library during the incident, said police officers threatened to shoot her with a Taser when she asked an officer for his name and his badge number.

Gordy was visibly upset by the incident and said other students were also disturbed.

"It's a shock that something like this can happen at UCLA," she said. "It was unnecessary what they did."

Immediately after the incident, several students began to contact local news outlets, informing them of the incident, and Remesnitsky wrote an e-mail to Interim Chancellor Norman Abrams.

He's already filing a lawsuit.

Let me summarize it for you.

Police:

"Stand up"

"Stand up"

"Stand up"

"Stand up"

"Stand up"

"Stand up"

"Stand up or you're going to get tazed again"

"Stand up"

"Stand up"

"Stand up"

"Stand up"

"Stand up"

"Stand up"

Cops taze the guy.

Crowd:
"You're abusing your power we want your badge number"

Cops:
"Stand up"

"Stand up"

"Stand up"

"Stand up"

"Stand up"

"Stand up"

"Stand up"

"Stand up or you're going to get tazed again"

"Stand up"

"Stand up"

"Stand up"

"Stand up"

Cops taze the guy.

I couldn't tell why they tazed him in the first place, but I'm guessing it's because he wasn't listening to the cops. :-?

Sounds like stupidity on both sides, then. The student should have complied with the simple order to "stop" when they told him to stop, and "get up" when they told him to get up (assuming he was physically capable, after having just been tasered). Interesting how he IMMEDIATELY starts yelping about the Patriot Act. Sounds like he had that ready to go in his mind before he even got into this situation.

The cops shouldn't have gotten all gung-ho about the kid in the first place, and they shouldn't have probably tased a guy for being in the library. I'm guessing they saw a guy who looked Middle Eastern and they went all Rambo on him.

Sounds to me like both sides were pretty much in the wrong here. Probably the cops are more in the wrong - tasering someone is a pretty big deal.

I can't understand why any of the students are so shocked that this could happen there. It's LA - the home of the Rodney King incident. These kids must live sheltered lives!

If you read the article Kaveman posted, the guy refused to show his ID badge so the police were called. If he thought he was being profiled, what he should have done is complied with the request and then determine if they used racial profiling against him. He of couse tried and convicted them of racial profiling on the spot when he refused to show his ID badge.

He was in a library that required identification. He then failed to show that identification. How could he not be wrong? The question is were the cops wrong to taze him? Probably. It certainly wasn't too smart tazing him in front of all those people. This guy was definitely looking for trouble, though.

If the police want to see your ID, you show them. Lesson learned.

Yea, they should have used mace instead...

Seriously, the guy was resisting the police and out of control. This is no Rodney King... they didn't badly beat him or use racial slurs.

When you're on Unv. property, you have to have an ID badge handy.

A kid was there with a camera... hmmm... can you say setup???

BTW- if he is from IRAN, and not a US Citizen, I'd ship him back ASAP. ;-D
