Sugar would not put two SEC teams (Fl and LSU), and given the way the Hokies travel and the money that would bring to post-Katrina New Orleans, it could happen.
Wishful thinking perhaps, what do you say?
Well as expected, the BCS passed on VT so looks like Chick-fil-A bowl for the Hokies. Still pretty good for what was expected to be a down year.

How can you possibly put ND in ahead of LSU???????? Mich vs. LSU, not vs. ND

Unfortunately, ND will go to a BCS game. It's all about the might dollar and ND will get an invite.
Believe me, if it was up to me I would never put ND over LSU. LSU earned a bowl this year, but I can't say the same for ND. I don't think they should be in a BCS game.
But they will be for the same reason VT had a shot at one-$$
Why is the whole "attendance thing" such heavily debated in bowl games. I cannot imagine any of the 5 BCS bowls NOT selling out, regardless of who plays in them. There are fans of the "strong" team that buy tickets, there are fans of the "weak" team that buy tickets, then there are locals, corporations, and celebrities that buy the rest of them.
"Why is a Fighting Illini considered politically incorrect, but not a Fighting Irish?"

You don't really want the locals to get toickets b/c they do not rent hotels, go out to eat, etc. etc. etc. the more people you get to come from out of town that stay for more than the game the better.

Actually the automatic BCS bowl game only works for one team who finishes in the top 4 of the BCS. Since that will be Michigan, even if Florida loses and LSU moves up to #4, since Michigan will be ahead of them they could theoretically not make a BCS bowl game. Which I think will happen if Florida loses because I think the Orange Bowl would select Florida over LSU (given that the Rose Bowl selects Mich/ND and not Mich/LSU).
