Seriously, though, you want me to pull up case after case of corrupt police officers? Or every instance where a police officer has behaved badly? You do realize that the UCLA taser incident was the third case in that single week in Los Angeles where police officers were video taped being possibly too rough with someone? Three times. One city. One week. On tape. How many go untaped and unknown?
I think it's safe to say there are a few instances where a cop does his job as it's supposed to be done and this doesn't get recorded either, neither on video or paper. You are choosing to focus on the bad apples. I'm sure I can google up a few stories about 'currupt' taxi drivers too. Doesn't mean I shouldn't trust one. Bad cops get a lot of publicity because they're supposed to be good guys, and most are.
I think you could word your assumption a little differently. Instead of "People don't trust the police since they started shooting up unarmed civilians.", you should add "A few..." in front of "people". This would be more accurate.
If you were being mugged would you rather have your trustworthy hotel maid next to you or a police officer?
Amen to that! I don't know where Matthias gets off presuming to talk for the "people". I still trust the police - of course you hear about the bad ones - you never hear about the countless ones doing their jobs with little or no appreciation and putting their lives on the line every day for the very people who bitch and complain about them.

No job position is immune from bad employees. Not police. Not construction workers. Not CEOs. Not anyone. I don't have anything to hide, but I'm not giving anyone a pass because of their job title, either.
The people who really get my respect are those who get none from anybody else. The taxi drivers. The cleaning ladies. The line chef. The guy selling newspapers. That's a hard damned life. And most of them bust their hump doing it. And they don't get any special night at Yankee Stadium, either. Instead, they're the ones cleaning it out once the party is all over.
So you are for the illegal immigrants?
The last Taxi Driver, Hotel Maid, & Newpaper Delivery person I had didn't speak any English. They don't have my respect.

Sorry SeaWolf, didn't realize you were Native American - what tribe are you from?
Come on, guys. Let's keep this civil. Nobody here is the bad guy. We all have our opinions, but let's not let opinions cloud how we talk to each other. There's no need to make this conversation personal.

Let's keep it calm, OK?
Are we even reading the same thread??!?!? There's been nothing uncivil so far....

Big difference between immigrants and illegal immigrants. And if the Berring Strait Theory is true, no one is "Native American", everyone is an immigrant!

I'm not a Native American, but I am an American. Just like everyone else who is here legaly.

Okay - since this topic was stupid to begin with let's take it off-topic for a second - what does whether or not they spoke English have to do with whether or not they were there legally?

Stupid comment my me? Maybe. But I feel strongly on both. Illegals and non english speaking.
My point is that this guy has more respect for someone who more than likely speaks no english and MAY not be here legaly. If they are here legaly then props to them. I still don't hold them very high. I really don't hold them higher then the police.

Okay - just pointing out that one does not necessarily = the other. And since you're ALL immigrants to a certain extent it makes no sense to be anti-immigrant - although I can certainly agree with an anti-illegals slant...
