That is the stupidest rule I have ever heard. The national title game should be the 2 best teams in the country. Period.

Florida needed Arkansas to beat LSU last week to have a chance to make a big jump if they could beat the razorbacks today. With Arkansas dropping I don't think it's possible anymore.

Michigan is sitting at .9175, with Florida at .8920.

Michigan is ahead of Florida in 4 of the 6 computer polls, and ahead of USC in two of them. Florida is ahead of USC in no computer polls.

If USC loses Florida immediately gains points in jumping USC in more computer polls than Michigan. If Florida beats Arkansas I would guess they would jump Michigan in at least one computer poll, possibly two which would mean they'd just need to jump them in one human poll (unlikely unless it's a pretty win) to jump them in the BCS.

and if this happens, you get to a point where Michigan is getting penalized for ending the season earlier than Florida.

Are you kidding? You're complaining that not having to play an extra game against a top 10 team every year could finally screw someone over? Poor guys. I mean, I know it was so rough on all those Big 10, Pac 10, and Big East teams to sit at home on their couch while countless other teams got knocked out of the national title picture in a game none of those guys had to worry about playing. Sure its hard for florida to play an extra game against a good team, but keep in mind that at least by ur logic, they control their own destiny- michigan has to sit back and root for UCLA.

I dont know whether this rule would be stupid or not. I can find merit in both sides of the argument. Why I think this will eventually be a rule is not to promote fairness, but to make it easier to make the BCS less foolish looking. If the system can easily discount an NU of '01 or a UM of '06, then it has the appearance that the system is generating the 2 best teams regardless of whether thats actually true.

Does Michigan jump USC because the win was unimpressive, or is a UCLA win really Michigan's only hope?

This is a great question that unfortunately has an easy answer. Forget the computers because thats not what controls the BCS rankings, its the coaches and harris polls that do. I dont agree with the "what have you done for me lately" attitude, but thats the mentality that most pollsters have. If USC wins, regardless of how, the pollsters see a big win against ND and a "tough" win against a rival against Michigan's loss to OSU. Certainly not fair, but its reality. Right now, I have USC ahead of Michigan, but if USC stuggles with a 6-5 team, rivalry be damned, and I couple that with a loss to an unranked team, I would have to seriously consider moving Michigan ahead of them regardless of what potential controversy could brew down the road.

Florida has to sit back and root for UCLA and then go out and beat Arkansas. Michigan just has to sit back and root for UCLA and eat some cheeseburgers.
