Alabama has contacted Rice offensive coordinator Major Applewhite to see if he has any interest in joining Nick Saban's coaching staff.

Applewhite's spread-offense was one of the most productive in Rice history this season. He never played or coached with Saban, but his father is a past president of the Alabama Alumni Association.

Charlie Strong will be a head coach this offseason. He was in the discussion for a lot of jobs last summer and especially after the performance his and co-D coordinator Greg Mattison's defense put display Monday he will get his own team and chance IMO.

I have heard he is also in the running for the Minnesota job as well as Tulsa. I like Charlie a lot and would hate to lose him, but it would be great to see him get a shot as a HC. Charlie is a great guy and a great football mind.

More on Minnesota

USC offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin is expected to interview for the Minnesota head coaching position on Friday.

Kiffin is a very strong candidate for the opening. Joining him on a list of candidates are TCU's Gary Patterson, Oklahoma assistant Brent Venables, and Montana head coach Bobby Hauck.

According to Gopher Illustrated, Lane Kiffin has been offered the head coaching position at Minnesota. The two sides are reportedly discussing the offer today.

Kiffin is a popular choice among Gopher fans thanks to his local ties and strong pedigree.

He has to be a good choice, he and I went to the same high school. :-b

Thats a good Hire, Kiffin is a great Coach. I know his Brother, went to HS with him here in Tampa, he actually got arrested just before the season for breaking into cars, he was always in trouble even when he played at CSU.

Chris definitely had a few issues growing up, they were pretty well publicized around here due to Monte's connections with the Vikings. He definitey went in a different direction than Lane, although I guess growing up where Lane did, with such low crime rate, if he would have steered off course he would have every officer in town hot on his tail. :-D
