Is this tactic legit?

I was just reading through all the "not setting a lineup" threads, and I thought of something.

In one of my leagues, a few months ago, my only QB option was Bruce Gradkowski (playing in the 40 MPH wind @ the Meadowlands when the G-Men were playing well).

Would it have been acceptable to leave my QB spot empty if I believed my QB would get me negative points and hurt my team?

Or would this be somehow wrong, unethical, etc.?

That's perfectly acceptable.

At the end of the day, it's not really individual tactics or manuevers that you want to ban. Because there's some instances (like this) where you may have a legitimate, pro-competitive reason to do something normally bad. And you may have a nefarious reason for doing something normally acceptable. So what you really want to evaluate is what is the person trying to accomplish? And here you would be trying to be pro-competition. So it's fine.

I left my TE spot empty in one week earlier this season because my TE was on bye and I felt that no one on my roster was expendable for a bye week fill-in at TE.

So leaving a spot empty intentionally is no problem IMO. Another story if a spot is left empy all year though.

This is acceptable because you are trying to help your team win. All the other threads are about losing on purpose.

I did the same EXACT thing with Crumpler. At that point, noboy was injured, and all of my players would get picked up for sure, so I went the week without him. I ended up losing by 20+ anyway... and boy am I glad I didn't drop Crumpler. He is a main reason my team is in first place. I have yet to lose a game in which he scores.

I agree with all others. Think about Grossman vs. Arizona so many Mondays ago, where, in one league, he racked up -13 points! I'm sure that owner would love to have benched his QB for that game. Funny thing is, he already had his game wrapped up, and kept Grossman in for extra points, and ended up losing because of him! So yeah, it's a perfectly acceptable strategy.

nothing wrong with that. ive started no tight end/defense due to the belief that none of my players were expendible enough to pick up a bye week filler.
