This idiot is bragging to a Miami Newspaper about getting gifts and money. The team he was supposed to play was from Miami. He was supposed to go to UF, we will see what happens with that.

I just listened to the actual taped interview. I actually feel sorry for him, it was a very innocent thing. He wasn't coming off as cocky, he was saying he walks down the street and people say hey i will give you clothes or money for your autograph and he was surprised. The kid was living on the street until a family took him in a couple years ago. I think he was a little set-up.
Some of the rules are way too strict nowadays. It looks like one of the violations was that some lady who was a fan of him bought him lunch. Big deal.
Some of the other things I could see being a bit too far though, but they weren't that bad. Shame that a 17 year old kid accepting a free lunch can ruin his life. My friends and I pass money around between each other all the time, I wonder if any of us were athletes if the same thing would make them ineligible.
He's just a kid, cut him a break. A 17 year old doesn't think about the consequences of his actions by taking money. Let's hope the NCAA realizes this and gives the kid a break. The FHSAA (Florida High School Athletic Association) has already stated that it will be the school's decision whether or not Rainey plays in the State Finals on Friday night, let's hope the NCAA is so understanding.
As an aside, Florida has absolutely stolen every player off of this Lakeland team. The team, one of the top 2 high school teams in the country, has won state the last two years and will send 6, yes you read correctly, 6 players to the University of Florida next year.

The Principle said he wasn't allowed to play. Yea we have a lot of guys from that team coming to UF. My buddy went there and said this rainey kid is the real deal, veryu fast and shifty.
Bagel- i don't think the lunch was the big thing. I listened to the interview, i think the main thing was the "wads" of cash he was given, and merchandise and clothes they gave him for an autograph.
I am willing to bet the NCAA doesn't do anything about it, sucks for Lakeland though, from what i am hearing without rainey they don't stand a chance.

He took money, so immediately he is ruled ineligible for that.
Right, although a lot of players have done that, served a short suspension, and gotten onto the field.
Lebron is an example, he would've been able to play in college despite taking free jerseys in highschool (playing in 3 all-star games notwithstanding).
