Waiver Wire Ethics question...input sought

Postby bmault » Mon Dec 18, 2006 11:15 am

Ok, to make a long story short...

Team A blocked Team B by outbidding him on 3 TE's (funny money system) so as to force Team B to play Watson.
Team A only picked up 2 of 3 pickups and left his 3rd TE on the wire until after kickoff on Sunday. Now he has Rudi tonight and one player left to pick up thus he would have to drop Rudi, following?
Team A was holding out to see if fred taylor was a go, but neglected to drop anyone. If Taylor was out, his last bench player would have been dropped for the 3rd TE. Whats the ruling on this?

Team A plays Team B tonight.

This is the first yearof our WW system and the rules were outlined. Pick up a player and drop another before those games. If hed had dropped Galloway and THEN Taylor was out, he would have no one to fill his flex spot, so he held out and never picked up that 3rd TE.

Any clearer?

bottom line is, he didnt pick up the 3 people he placed bids on (one of which was a player that the other guy also bid on and lost). His playoff chances are now done if he can't start Rudi.

I guess I would have to sya that once you bid on and win a guy you should have to pick him up at that time not being able to wait....and my head still hurts

I think that he has to drop Rudi....you can not make a waiver wire claim and not pick the guy up. Online leagues would require him to define the player to be dropped at the time he made the claim. This is standard procedure. It is unusual that you allow someone to decide who to drop after they win the claim. What precedance has been set in this league for people that put waiver claims in and maybe not followed through on them? What rules do you have for enforcing the waiver claim? What would you have done had he not had a player playing on MNF and his "last game" was muliple players?

I personally think the commish should have intervened earlier in this who thing. It is really not fair that a player was blocked from picking up a TE and the guy did not even put him on his roster...for that reason alone you need to sit Rudi. Rules can not cover every circumstance and the commish needs to close this loop hole and not allow someone to advance in the playoffs by basically being a snake and taking away from the fair play of the league.

So he tried to pick up three players to block another player from getting a TE and it backfired and can't start Rudi? Is your question should he be forced to drop Rudi? If worked around your system somehow and managed to block another player and gets to play all his players, then it's not his fault your system is screwy. I don't really understand the wait period between bidding and picking up the player.

he won 3 and only picked up 2, leaving Rudi as his lone available player to be dropped. This really sucks because we have been friends for years and this may dissolve the league and there are divided opinions.

let me see if i have this straight...he outbid everyone on 3 players-thus blocking other owners-and has not dropped 3 players to pick these free agents up? if thats the case, this waiver system is screwed up, but that being said, if he still has a player on his roster who has not played yet this week ( a colt/bengal) then you must force that player from his roster and complete the waiver process that he himself began. i understand that he was attempting to block his opponent from getting a suitable TE, but it seems he didnt think this through completely...too bad for him.
