Sorry - not possible. If you had the 2nd best team you would have been the second seed in the playoffs. Since you didn't make the playoffs you were not even the 3rd, 4rth or possibly even 6th best team in your league (depending on how many make the playoffs that is).
As for the original poster - sucks to be you, but that's what you get for playing an important fantasy game in a week that means nothing to so many teams in the NFL. Lesson learned I hope!

Sure it is. We split the season into 2 seven week halves. 2 divisions. Top team in each division makes it each half.
I lost 4 games all year which is the best overall record by 2 games. I was tied at the end of each half and lost by tie breaker both times. The other division was 7-7 each half so 2 people with a less than .500 record made it to the playoffs. Had I been in the other division I would have made the playoffs and won the Superbowl.
There is one team on paper that is better than mine. He scored more total points but had a lesser record.
At least I won the 80 bucks.

Okay - so just like the original poster is at fault for playing in week 17, you are at fault for playing in a silly setup like this one. In either case, you had the 3rd best team at best, since two teams in your own division beat you for playoff spots - I will concede that your team MAY have been better than the playoff teams from Division B since your own team's performance had little to do with their inclusion in the playoffs.

It is a silly set up and we learned from it. Next year its one division and top 4 make it.
I was the 2nd best team each half and the best overall if you are counting total record. I was 3-1 against both of the teams that beat me. Just a fluke that they won. If you saw their team you'd agree. FFball is 20% skill and the rest luck. I have the skill but not the luck.
But hey its all fun. I broke even for the year and had a ton of entertainment.

It's plastered all over the message board every year both at the beginning of the season when leagues are formed, and at the end of the season - this is the very reason that league championships are not held in week 17.
Imo, commissioners who insist on these settings, and managers who participate in such leagues, deserve to lose.
Agreed.
But I wouldn't say that they deserve to lose. I just think that they shouldn't be surprised when teams that already have their playoff seed clinched sit players so they don't get injured in a meaningless game.
Every league I'm in (7 this year) was done in week 16. I refuse to play the most important fantasy football game of the year in week 17. It makes no sense to play for 16 weeks and then play the SB in week 17 when a lot of teams will sit players and/or play them for part of the game and then sit them. Week 16 SB's are the only way to go because it's VERY rare that this happens in week 16.

I'm not whining here and I'm not surprised at all. I knew this was going to happen and I knew it from the end of July when my team was drafted. It's just frustrating to have the best team in the league and get a first round bye then lose in the semis and then lose the third place game. But I had Jake Delhomme starting then I dropped him for Garcia. This came as no surprise, just venting.

I was in the difficult position of playing for the championship game in week 17. Who would have dreamed Detroit would beat Dallas and make the Eagles game meaningless? I had Westbrook in my backfield and the only thing that saved me was that my opponent had Garcia. I squeaked out a championship win.
