I think it's still going to be free, you just have to download the new free version. This is from the grisoft website:

GRISOFT is announcing a new version of the AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition. This new 7.5 version with improved performance and full compatibility with the latest Windows Vista version is available. Users that are using AVG Free 7.1 will be provided with a specific dialog, within the next few weeks, with the opportunity to choose the right option fulfilling their needs. AVG Free 7.1 version will be discontinued on 18th of Feb 2007.

Exactly. There's a new free version but if you dont read that message close enough, I can see where you think you have to pay, because that's what they want you to do.

Ahh, that's pretty cool that AVG still has a free version. I only checked via the links given from the popup and couldn't find any mention of them continuing the free version. Sneaky bastards, lol.

I guess I'm gonna have to go download the free version then. Thanks for the heads up Goatwhacker. ;-D

if you don't want to fork up the dough. Their free version isn't the best as far as protection goes, but it is the best there is for free. Its best to get some of that other stuff to help protect you.

I just got the Search and Destroy one and it seems to have worked good. Is the AVG Virus and Spyware seperate programs?

Yes. The spyware one doesn't work fully. It doesn't protect live unless you purchase it, but you can still use it to scan you computer and it picked up a few things on my computer that other stuff missed.

trend micro pc cillin is the best available on the market. it has been used primarily in big business. just recently went to the consumer market. it was on the today show in a battle of the firewall type showdown. the hacker busted through mcafee and norton in under 5 minutes. it took him several hours to get through pc-cillin. plus pc-cillin has a wireless network protection feature that none of the others do. it's the best. ;-D

We have Norton and Spy Sweeper. I don't think there are any problems with them, and even if there were, I wouldn't know how to fix them. :-B
