Caffeinated Doughnuts?

Postby deerayfan072 » Fri Jan 26, 2007 8:36 am

DURHAM. N.C. (AP) - That cup of coffee just not getting it done anymore? How about a Buzz Donut or a Buzzed Bagel? That's what Doctor Robert Bohannon, a Durham, North Carolina, molecular scientist, has come up with. Bohannon says he's developed a way to add caffeine to baked goods, without the bitter taste of caffeine. Each piece of pastry is the equivalent of about two cups of coffee.

While the product is not on the market yet, Bohannon has approached some heavyweight companies, including Krispy Kreme, Dunkin' Donuts and Starbucks about carrying it.

No more need for the coffee with the doughnuts :-b

Why don't we just freebase caffeine into our systems and have done with it? All we do is try to figure out more and more ways to ingest this stuff.

Maybe if we figured out a way as a society to allow ourselves more sleep we wouldn't need this stuff.

In any event, I'm buying stock in caffeine. ;-D

Eh, I don't see a problem with this. It isn't as if donuts are a staple of most people's diets. And it's not like every single donut made from here on out will have caffeine in it. In any case, if any of the big 3 companies mentioned in the article start making these caffeine donuts, I doubt that they'll become anything mainstream. It's like caffeine water. Lots of hoopla when it first came out, but it never really caught on and I don't see it in stores too often.

I can see why caffeine water didnt work. Nowadays people who are trying to be as healthy/fit drink water. Those that arent trying or dont care generally will drink something with taste and/or sugar. I can see the donut thing working since those that are willing to eat a donut on a regular basis generally have no qualms about putting caffeine in their body, and many probably feel that they 'need' the caffeine.
