In the league I was commissioner in this season I thought I'd try add a few things to make the scoring reward more effiecient performances instead of just brute force:
QB's
completions +0.5 pts
incompletions -0.75 pts
net result is that a completion % above 60% gets extra points, below loses
Eg assume two quartebacks put up the same yardage and Td's but have differnet completion rates:
qb 1 goes 20/30, gets +10 (20 completions) - 7.5 (10 incompletions) = +5 pts
qb2 goes 20/40 gets +10 (20 completions) - 15 (20 completions) = -5 pts
RB's
rushing attempt -0.42 pts
rushing yards 1 pt / 10 yds (note when you add the regular rushing yardage of 1 pt / 10 yds you'll get a total of 1pt / 5yds)
net result is rb's with a rushing average above 4.2 get bonus pts, below lose
eg rb 1 rushed for 100 yds on 30 carries gets +10 (yds) -12.6 (carries) = -2.6 bonus pts (+10 pts for regular yds = +7.4 total pts)
rb 2 rushed for 80 yds on 16 carries gets +8 (yds) - 6.72 (carries) = +1.28 bonus pts (+8 pts for regular yds = +9.28 total pts)
I wanted to do something similar with wr's but the problem that rb's have a far smaller yds/rec and so if I had something for that rb's would always be at a disadvantage.
I think the rb thing worked okay but the qb scoring may have been a bit excessive (the example I gave almost produced a 2 td swing in scoring), halving it would seen about right. What does everyone else think, is it too complicated or does it introduce a nice added bit of strategy?
