While I dont agree with her, I also dont agree with your statement.
Just b/c someone isnt a citizen, doesnt mean that they should be taken advantage or or allowed to have crimes/injustices done to them.
This is the viewpoint I have a problem with. You are immediately labelling this woman a victim. That's completely inaccurate in our country. She is here illegally and is attempting to take advantage of the fruits of this country. Labelling her a victim is inaccurate and unconstructive.
Look at the part I bolded. I never said she was a victim...I dont think she should get the car at all.
All i was saying was that we cant just automatically say (as joel said) that "if you aren't a legal US resident, you can't file a court case."
This goes far beyond winning a car. If someone is a tourist, do they have the right to be assaulted or stolen from just b/c they arent a legal US resident? If we say tourists are allowed to have rights, but illegal immigrants arent, whats that say about us? What about those trying to get citizenship or whatever else you can think of.
Is it OK for you to rape and murder someone if they are trespassing on your property? It is illegal for them to be there, but that still doesnt give you the right to do it.
Laws are there to protect people, plain and simple. Granted, this person should not be here, and this is a small incident, but where do you draw the line...and thats my point.
Do you draw the line at not owning up to a promise? A contract? Stealing from them? Assault? Murder? What?
Where is the line drawn to where we protect illegal immigrants and where we dont?
There are rights we have as US citizens, but there are moral rights that we all have. You cant just say that b/c someone here is illegally doesnt mean they have these rights also.
I realize this is far and away past just not getting a car, but not giving illegal immigrants the ability to file claims opens up a huge can of worms
A tourist is in the country legally though and thus should be accorded the full protection of the law. An illegal immigrant should not be accorded all the rights of a citizen (but that doesn't mean you can victimize them either).

OK, here is my view on it. There is a difference between criminal action and filing a law suit. If somebody were to kill, rape, etc. an illegal alien, they get tried according to law. The illegal alien doesn't have to file a suit against them for that. That's a criminal charge. As for the contest thing, it's illegal to give away a prize to a non-US citizen in the first place. Whether or not they stated that in the first place was the problem.
So to sum it up.
Proper scenario:
An illegal alien gets raped. The police show up, catch the guy. He goes to prison. The person who was raped gets sent back where they came from. It's that simple. That is (IMO) the proper scenario.
Wrong scenario:
An illegal alien gets raped. The police show up, catch the guy. He goes to prison. The person who was raped files suit in a claims court, gets a million dollars for compensation and stays in the US.
So, I see your point. I don't know exactly how much we are disagreeing and how much we are just arguing two different things. But that's my thoughts on the matter.

If someone is a tourist, they are in the US legally and have the protection of the government.
It says that the tourists are legal, the illegal immigrants aren't. It says that we are a country that acts within our laws. That's what that says about us.
As for the third bold, those trying to get citizenship, etc. can do it LEGALLY. You get a residence or work visa, etc. You live here legally while you apply for citizenship. I have friends that have done it legally and it pisses them off when somebody tries to get around the laws when they spent their hard work and money to get here according to the law.

A tourist is NOT a legal US RESIDENT
thats why i added it.
ummm... yes they are.
They aren't citizens, but they are legal residents.
Mine could have said to be more clear:

there probably is a disclaimer in the stations contest manifesto that claims a person must be a legal US resident in order to claim their prize. or something like that.
funny thing to me is she's now on the run trying to evade deportation.
she'll loose her case and get deported.

Yeah, it has to, or they are in trouble. I think that what she is more upset about is the fact that they didn't actually come out and say that when they announced the contest.

they never announce all the rules to those radio giveaways, they say something like go online or call for rules of the contest.
she's just a fool for trying this in the first place, she should've read the illegal immigrant dos and don'ts when she snuck in or decided to not leave after her visa ran out.
