BRADENTON - Carolyn Bovey's second bite just didn't feel right. Maybe it was a bone, she thought.
In a sausage sandwich? No way.
Bovey pulled the McDonald's Sausage McMuffin from her mouth Wednesday and there it was, she says: a razor blade protruding from the egg.
A Manatee County sheriff's deputy arrived. Photos were taken. Cooks were grilled.
"I'll never bite into another sandwich again," Bovey said. The 54-year-old wasn't seriously injured, but said she feels like she slightly cut her lip.
Authorities took the sandwich and its embedded blade as evidence in a criminal investigation. Sheriff's detectives want to know whether the blade was intentionally put in the sandwich or fell onto the grill where eggs are cooked at the McDonald's in the 7300 block of Cortez Road West.
Cynthia Kennedy, the owner and operator of the McDonald's, urged residents not to jump to any conclusions. "We take these matters very seriously. In light of today's information, we have taken immediate action to investigate these claims and gather the facts," she said.
Employees told authorities they knew nothing about the blade.
Accident or not, Bovey remains unsettled. She's talking to her attorneys.
"Why would anything like this be near a food preparation area?" she asked. "That almost made me feel worse, that something like this could happen by accident. This should never have happened."
This happened right up the street from me. I have eaten the McMuffins there bfore, no more
I'm with stomperrob on this one. This reeks of that lady who tried to sue Wendy's for a finger in her chili even though they couldn't find anybody with a missing finger....until they found her friend who had a digit removed. Idiot.
Why do I think this? Look at the position of the blade. That lady took TWO bites right into the blade. I'm sorry, but one bite into a hard metal object is enough for me to question it texture of a McMuffin....even though, sometimes, the biscuits can be about that hard....
haha, this woman is crazy. Nowhere near as crazy as that dumb lady that sued McDonalds for spilling hot coffee in her lap though. Good thing SHE didn't win.
As for this lady...Don't they have security cameras in McDonalds? Couldn't they just look to see if:
a. The cook put something unusual and shiny in the McMuffin
b. The lady kind of slipped something a little "unexpected" into the McMuffin.
I mean, that would be MY first two steps.
It looks like it's actually IN the egg, which means:
1) The egg had the razor already in it
2) It fell on the grill while the egg was cooking
3) A McDonald's worker purposely slid the razor through the egg after it cooked
4) She purposely slid the razor through the egg after it was cooked
Hmmm... If it was something processed at a processing plant, it might be harder to prove, but the fact that it almost HAD to have happened on the premises isn't making her story look very legit.
