No serious link yet, but it seems like ESPN is reporting it as very official.

If your watching College Basketball on ESPN, they reported it on the BottomLine when the game was on, but also after the game.

I don't understand why they would do this. They guy had had them go 14-2 in the regular season with homefield advantage clinched. Yes, he can't win in the playoffs, but like I said once before, you have to be able to win in the regular season to even get into the post season.

The real question is why do this now. The opportunity to search for a head coach is almost over.

Something must have happened between AJ Smith or Spanos and Shotty because theres no way you fire your coach this close to the draft/late after the post season.

This is CRAZY!!!

I can't believe this happened. I am a bit shellshocked over the whole thing.

Schottenheimer and Chargers general manager A.J. Smith have been having disagreements over staffing after losing a number of assistants. Dean Spanos, the team president, told Schottenheimer on Monday that it wasn't going to work between him and Smith.

This might answer your question.

I am hearing that it is probably a case of there was a HUGE disagreement about personnel decisions.

Cowher already announced his retirement. So he has to wait one year, then he can go to anyone else (I believe).

Chargers win the super bowl next year I don't care if their the favorite or not without Marty (pains me to say it) they are a better team and losses like that one to New England will not happen.
