Rotoworld reporting Justin Smith Franchised by Bengals

Postby GreenBay4Life » Thu Feb 15, 2007 4:21 pm

Bengals designated DE Justin Smith as their franchise player.

Smith and his agent have expected the move and shown no resistance, so it seems they're willing to work out a long-term deal. Otherwise, Smith, who had 7.5 sacks and forced one fumble in 2006, will be grossly overpaid under the one-year, $8.6 million tender. The Bengals will also have committed nearly half their cap space if no other deal can be struck.

if this is true what a waste of money this yr if they cant get a long term deal done.

This guy is very underrated IMO. I believe they should lock him up for the next 6 years.

Good move. The Bengals need to lock up the few great defensive players they have. :-b

Smith's good, but I don't know that he's 8.6 million good. Still, the Bengals can't afford to lose him, so it's not like they had much choice. Now they need to get a long-term deal done.

Yeah he doesn't get as much credit as he should. He is a very good defensive end, but he gets lost in the shuffle with the likes of Strahan, Peppers, etc.

Plus he went to Mizzou ;-D

Dude, Smith's good, but comparing him to Strahan or Peppers? Apples and oranges.
