Expanding from 8 to 10 teams

Postby Jimboozie » Mon Feb 26, 2007 5:11 pm

Hey,

I play in an 8-man keeper league with poker friends and there's a strong chance we'll be expanding to ten this year. This is a keeper league and we've been keeping four over the last few years.

Me and the commish have talked about it a bit. Here is what he is thinking.
-All eight current owners choose five players that they would like to keep.
-Two players on each team are untouchable, for instance LT and LJ couldn't be drafted by an expansion team
-The other three can be drafted by an expansion owner, but each owner can and will only lose one player each

That way the expansion teams get four players and we each lose one.

Is there a better way to do this? Any other suggestions for bringing in expansion teams?

That sounds like the way I would do it. ;-D

Making half of the normal keepers untouchable and letting them have a pick, with a max of losing 1 is a very good option

expansion

My only suggestion would be to protect 2, allow the expansion teams to make their picks, then allow the existing teams to tag 2 other players.

No need to tell the expansion teams which 3 players you value as potential keepers, let them do the work.

This could work as well. Unless you are letting a couple of very inexperienced owners in, it probably won't result in different rosters when all is said and done - as long as you still allow a maximum of one player to be drafted from each team.

I think your commish has come up with a pretty overall fair plan. This way the new guys won't get shafted either.

You may want to consider giving the expansion teams some type of preferential treatment in whatever NFL Rookie draft your league does as well, kind of like the NFL did when Carolina and Jax were added to the league.

Maybe give both expansion teams an extra pick in 2 rounds of your rookie draft.

This is all good info. I am the commish in our 8 team Keeper which also looks like we will expand to 10 this year.

We are throwing the top 3 rounds of picks from 2006 back in the mix and giving our two newbies, and any other owner who wants to completely dump their roster, an equal chance at the top spot.

Your method sounds good Jimbo, and I would definitely give the two new expansion owners the draft position of their choice (assuming you do serpentine style; I don't know what is the regular style for a second year keeper). Otherwise they should just get picks 1 and 2. ;-D
