Maroney's Value in 2007?

Postby Dexter II » Sun Mar 04, 2007 2:28 pm

With the release of Dillon what do you think Maroney's value is for 2007?

Solid #1RB
Shaky #1RB
Solid #2RB
Shaky #2RB
Bye week fill in

I have him as a keeper and don't quite know how to value him. Right now I'm thinking solid #2RB.

I say he is a tweener. Somewhere between solid/shaky #2.

With Kevin Faulk and now Sammy Morris who are both great receivers out of the backfield on the roster next season it means Maroney will be more of a 2 down guy.

Couple that with his injury concerns he scares me a little.

I think he will go to high for my liking. I doubt I would grab him before very late 2nd or early 3rd round and I am pretty sure he will be gone by then.

Are there any other rbs on your roster that you are keeping Maroney over?

You should be ok with him as a #2 just make sure your #1 is a true #1 just in case Maroney stumbles.

Faulk is injury prone and he fumbles more than he doesn't. Don't look for Faulk to suddenly become a great FF RB although he will be solid as a #2/3 back behind Maroney. I think Maroney is a solid #2, but I wouldn't want to rely on him as my main back.

I agree with Keyser that he's likely somewhere between "Solid #2" and "Shaky #2". I doubt he'll be on many of my teams, as I think he's gonna be overvalued in most drafts in '07, and will probably be drafted much earlier than I'd be comfortable taking him.

Thanks for the response Keyser_WV.

It's an auction league ($100 cap / keep up to 3 for $10 or less) and I plan to keep Maroney for $4, Deuce for $2, and Bulger for $3.

i also agree with keyser solid/shaky #2...

i just wanted to reply to sox06 by saying NOBODY on the planet thinks faulk will be a good FF RB let alone a great one. The reason he is brought up is because it appears that faulk and sammy will steal 3rd downs and goalline carries from Maroney... thus making Maroney no better than a #2 at this point... but things can change

I agree with you, I guess what I wanted to say came out wrong. I don't think the Maroney/Faulk/Morris will be the same as Dillon/Maroney. Last season with Dillon/Maroney, both were pretty good FF RB. What I wanted to say is I think Maroney will be a good #2 back in FF, but Faulk really wouldn't be a good option fantasy wise. I didn't word what I wanted to say correctly. ;-D

Wow, Maroney at $4 and Deuce at $2 is great value! Maroney should start the season as a solid #2 and may eventually move up to an average-to-good #1.

I think solid number 2 with the potential to be a shaky/solid number 1.
So they weren't the best...and may have ended the worst. SO WHAT!

This is a tough one I think. He really hasn't shown me anything that would even put him in the solid #2 RB range as of yet. I would probably agree with the others who have put him in the shaky to solid #2 range because in his limited role last year he struggled with some durability issues and didn't look great often.

He had 6 games under 4 ypc last season (5 of them 3.5 ypc or less) and it's not like he didn't get the ball enough those games....he averaged a little over 11 attempts per game for those games. Normally when we see someone take over a starting role and be successful from a part-time role, the player tends to be extremely successful in that limited role first. This was not the case with Maroney and is a slight cause for concern. Certainly not saying that he's not capable of carrying the load, but I'm much less certain than I was before this past season. I think he's going to go a lot earlier than I would want him in drafts and probably be extremely overvalued going into next season. Now is a good time to deal him.
