Cowboys re-sign Colombo

Postby sox 06 » Fri Mar 09, 2007 7:22 pm

A week after the Cowboys paid more than $49 million to add Leonard Davis to the right side of their defensive line, the Cowboys filled out the rest of the right side by re-signing right tackle Marc Colombo.

Colombo received a two-year, $7 million deal that includes a $4 million signing bonus. The Jets were among other teams pursuing the former Bears No. 1 draft choice, but Colombo opted to stay with the Cowboys.

With Colombo under contract, Davis can concentrate on playing right guard. Colombo's re-signing was considered a top priority of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. He re-signed center Andre Gurode before the start of free agency, then added Davis last week. Colombo's return ends any uncertainty about the offensive line.

Good. This makes the Leonard Davis signing alot better because Davis is a better guard than tackle. Dallas' O-line should be pretty decent if it can stay healthy.

Yea, Colombo staying healthy all year is an iffy proposition. First round o-line draft picks from Chicago don't have a great track record of avoiding injuries. :-/
The cake is a lie.

Great signing. The cowboys O line is looking pretty good. Davis can play tackle as well so if injuries do happen he should be able to slide over. It also gives the younger guys some more time to develop to maybe take over for Flo and/or Kosier next year.

Gurode,Davis and Columbo should make for a pretty good right side. And I think Flo should still have 1 more good year left in him. But I agree, there are injury concerns on this line.

Also, what does this mean for Rivera if/when he comes back? He back up the guard spots?
So they weren't the best...and may have ended the worst. SO WHAT!
