Chiefs sign Donnie Edwards...

Postby killiansjmd » Sat Mar 10, 2007 4:04 pm

Donnie Edwards-LB- Chargers Mar. 10 - 3:55 pm et

The Chiefs have reached agreement with linebacker Donnie Edwards on a three-year contract worth roughly $14 million.

Edwards, 34 in April, probably won't make it to the end of this contract but will step in and start on the weak side in Gunther Cunningham's defense. Kansas City has overhauled its linebacking corps in free agency but still has no capable starters on the interior defensive line.

Where were these kind of defensive signings for them 3 years ago? This is a solid move to bring in a veteran who's got 1-2 more years of solid play left in him.

The Chiefs are bringing in all kinda of big name vets recently. They've got some talent on the defense, thats for sure.

yeah, now it comes down to the coaching and whether or not these names actually pan out. Free Agency overhauls haven't worked in years past. Although it works better on defense than offense.
ADMIN edit: please note that the overall sig limit is 12k - thanks!

My personal opinion is that Edwards best years are behind him. I believe he is an OK, signing. I think KC may have paid a little too much for him though. JMO

vermeil didn't care about the defense that much plain and simple. he was much more fond of putting up huge points to make sure everyone knew it was him in st louis that was the genius and not martz.

i'll take the number 6 guy in tackles in the league even if these are his bad years. while i would say he definitely doesn't have a lot of years left he is ten times better than bell, mitchell and fox all wrapped up into one. we should have never let him go in the first place but thanks to vermeil he left. DJ ,harris and edwards is light years ahead of DJ ,mitchell and bell.

Donnie Edwards has always been one of the most underrated players in the league, he should have a couple more good years in him.
