Good move. Although they should of kept Irvin and still hired Emmitt too while adding Troy Aikman. Just have those three guys do all the ESPN football. ;-D :-b

If that's the case then ESPN owed it to us as consumers, Americans, and human beings to televise said pummeling for our amusement.

I wish Emmitt would have taken Theismann's job.

Irvin was a moron who only cared about hearing his own voice and talking about how great he was. THat's great though because he gave a perfectly honest opinion of how players really feel and think.

Irvin was a disgrace, and has no place on a broadcaster's table. This was an excellent move.

EMMITT TO ESPN

As it turns out, the replacement for Michael Irvin on ESPN's pro football studio show apparently will be his former Dallas Cowboys teammate, Emmitt Smith.

Smith has been angling to get into the television business for the past couple of years. His victory in ABC's Dancing with the Stars arguably gave him some additional overall appeal, making it easier to justify giving him a seat at the grown-ups' table.

For now, the official word from ESPN's public relations department is that Smith will join "ESPN's NFL Studio Team." Whether this means that he's taking the Sunday seat previously occupied by Irvin or the periodic seat occupied by Sean Salisbury (a guy can dream, can't he?) remains to be seen.

ESPN will be conducting a media conference call at 2:00 p.m. EDT to formally announce the decision.

Former Cowboys coach Bill Parcells recently joined ESPN, primarily as a component of the Monday night coverage.

Smith HAS been on tv the past couple years on the NFL Network. :-?

I liked hearing Irvin. He butted heads with Mike Ditka which made for good entertainment. Emmitt is good but not as out spoken as Irvin. He will say his words and not challenge people like Ditka. Ditka will go unchallenged and become ever more annoying.
