Lions sign WR Shaun McDonald...

NFL.com's Adam Schefter reports Detroit has signed WR Shaun McDonald to a two-year, $2.8 million contract, including $1.5 million guaranteed.

McDonald is an ideal slot receiver in most offenses but Lions coordinator Mike Martz prefers small speedsters outside, so he'll have a chance to pass Mike Furrey for a starting job. McDonald caught 83 passes for 1017 yards from 2004-05 as a fourth and fifth receiver under Martz in St. Louis.

Guess k.Curtis will be signing elsewhere now.

McDonald barely even received #3 WR money, that's like #4 WR he took. Still plenty of room for Curtis in Detroit if that's where they choose to go. Curtis himself would be the one making the decision not to go if it came down to it.

Not a bad signing, but he has to fight with too many other quality receivers, and more importantly doesn't have the greatest qb throwing to him.

The main concern is not if Curtis comes to the Lions because of this signing, but look at what they think of Mike Williams. :-?

This is a Martz decision instead of Millen, so I like it better than most of their signings. While Duckett wasn't a Martz move (he doesn't fit into any role in a Martz O scheme) McDonald does fit into his idea of a slot receiver. Sadly he is the wrong ex-Ram slot receiver, but they didn't pay an ungodly amount for him.
A subtle shift in Matt Moron's reign of error, he now signs scrubs for little instead of duds for lots.

No idea why the Lions don't just cut Mike Williams, other than money, stubborness, and or spite. Silly franchise.
