Panthers running game for 2007?

Postby JavaDude » Thu Mar 22, 2007 12:27 pm

So who do y'all think will be the Panthers' starting RB in '07? They can save $3.3 million by cutting DeShaun Foster.

After seeing last year's performance, I can't imagine DeAnglo Williams is ready to carry the full load. As sexy as it is nowadays for teams to cut veterans once they get close to the cap, I just don't see how a team like the Panthers, who should contend for the Super Bowl, could risk it. My money is one a 2-headed monster, maybe three.

Yeah, I know the popular opinion is D.Williams will start and succeed, but I have a feeling it's RBBC and I even think D.Foster gets the better of a 60/40 split (until he gets hurt that is...)

I actually think that the carries will be split 60/40 , but infavor of Williams.

I am thinking you guys are right...the Bush/McAllister era of RBBC is in full effect, and it easily can be done in Carolina. Foster is a pretty good pass catcher, and Williams can surely handle a large number of carries. It would keep both players fresh and allow the Panthers to utilize both of their skills.

I don't really want a part of either of these players on my roster in '07. Williams will go too high presuming he will become the starter. And Foster will go to high presuming that he will remain the starter. Strikes me very much like Rhodes/Addai of last year. Way too hit and miss.

I think they will try to give Williams a majority of the carries this year, but whatever happens I probably won't be drafting a Carolina running back onto my team.
