Jaguars signed TE Jermaine Wiggins on a 1-Yr $1 M Contract

Postby madaslives911 » Fri Mar 23, 2007 8:08 am

From Rotoworld:

Jaguars agreed to terms with TE Jermaine Wiggins on a one-year, $1 million contract.

He reunites with former coach Mike Tice, but it's an odd fit. Both Marcedes Lewis and George Wrighster are catch-first tight ends like Wiggins. While Wrighster is recovering from shoulder surgery, the position will be too crowded for Wiggins to be a fantasy factor like he was in Minnesota.

Marcedes Lewis' chances of being an impact fantasy tight end went down Friday following the signing of Jermaine Wiggins.

Man, I was really high on Mercedes Lewis, but this is just weird.

The heck? There must be something going on that we don't know about. Lewis wasn't drafted in the first round to keep the bench warm, and Wrighster really emerged last season as an offensive weapon.

How is Wiggins at blocking? It's conceivable that they could be bringing him in to fill the spot left by Kyle Brady for a pure blocking TE.

I see this more as an insurance policy for Marcedes. Wiggins is a decent receiving and blocking TE, but shouldn't contest for any playing time for the Jaguars unless an injury occurs. Also, I wouldn't be suprised if Asst. Head Coach Mike Tice put in a good word for Wiggins to get a shot with JAX.

Wiggens is more of a pass catching TE than a blocking TE. I think this hurts Lewis value.

It certainly will hurt Lewis's value. I guess Kleinsasser is the starting TE for the Vikings?

i disagree with loveboatcaptain, i don't think wiggins was that good at blocking. and the vikes knew that as it was not expected of him much... I don't know if VS is or not. but yeah, he's a total pass catcher with great soft big hands. he makes his share of one handers etc... i think this only hurts mercedes value right now. maybe he's not maturing fast enough. or maybe the jags are planning a lot of 2 TE sets... still not good...
