Excerpted from an Adam Schefter article on nfl.com:
The Dallas Cowboys have reached agreement with free-agent safety Ken Hamlin on a one-year, $2.5 million deal. Hamlin also had visited the Saints, but he spent the past few days trying to finalize the deal with the Cowboys. Now Hamlin and Roy Williams will form one of the most formidable safety tandems in the league.

Funny, as the only Cowboys fan to respond so far I don't think it meets our needs. Hamlin is the exact same type of player as Roy. Both play better at the line. I think we needed more of a centrefield type FS. But for the price I can't really complain.
Still, the Cowboys do NOT go OL in the first round!!!
So they weren't the best...and may have ended the worst. SO WHAT!
Hamlin is a run stopper....pure and simple, he's another version of roy williams like the guy above me said.
I remember they were mentioning moving Roy williams to LB(where he really belongs) and moving aaron glenn to safety.
Well i hope the cowboys do shore up their safeties for the deep ball, right now you have a LB and a run stuffer at safety, it'll be like the 06' hawks......anything deep 1 on 1 with the safety was a td against us.

Hopefully Wade Phillips' D can put so much pressure on QB's that they won't be able to go deep often. THe Cowboys also still have Patrick Watkins at FS, who is the center fielder type of free safety, and if Hamlin's getting toasted alot then Watkins may replace him.
I don't know much about Hamlin, so I PM'ed BGBootha about him when I heard we were looking to sign him. He reinforced what I already thought and that is that we are signing another less talented Roy Williams. Hamlin bites too hard on teh play action and can get beat over the top. So unless one of the two (Hamlin) can be trained to stay back and cover deep, this is going to be a scary season for our pass defense.
Having said all of that, I think that the biggest plus about this is the fact that we have a defensive guru here to manage this move. I trust Phillips to get these guys in their proper positions and solely due to the fact that he is running the defense, I think we have a top-3 to top-5 defense next season.
