Laurence Maroney - News about an Injury

This is the first I have heard of this injury and it doesn't sound good.

Not being able to absorb contact is not what you want to hear about a RB.

Patriots running back Laurence Maroney had offseason shoulder surgery that revealed “fairly significant damage,” according to a league source, though the long-term impact is unclear. Maroney felt shoulder pain down the stretch and in the playoffs that limited his ability to absorb contact. We can't really make too many judgments from this story alone. There's no telling how he might heal. He could be fine. He's young, so he's got that going for him!

If the Patriots were worried about Maroney they would have either not released Dillon or signed someone better than Sammy Morris this offseason.

Agreed. If they were worried about his injury, they would have kept Dillon or gone after someone better than Morris

I agree as well. If the Patriots were at all worried about this injury they would have either kept Dillion or went out and got someone who could serve as more then just a change of pace back for Maroney. As an owner of Maroney in several keeper leauges, I am in no way worried about this.

i think he'll be ok but he's always had injury problems... i'm guessing a short NFL career... but a good one. I almost traded larry johnson for him, roywilliams, and a 1st round pick... i was very close... glad i didn't...

Frank Gore had reconstructive shoulder surgery on both shoulders at the end of last season. I, obviously, have no idea how comparable the two cases are but I wouldn't be too worried about Maroney right now.

Explains in part why he struggled as the season went on.

The Pats don't seem overly concerned, so if I were a Maroney owner I dunno that I would be either. However, I'm not as high on Laurence as some, and doubts about his durability are one of the reasons.
