Good eye joel, a large tongue is another Pit trait. Boxers tend to have a large tongue as well but with such a long nose and being so low to the ground I doubt he has much if any boxer in him. He really looks more Pit than anything to me.

he very well could have it. we were leery of adopting a pit/pit-mix...i know it's all in how it's raised/trained, but with wanting to have kids in the next few years it was just something we worried about in the back of our minds and were trying to avoid

Congrats - he does look like he has some Pit Bull in him. Obviously you'll have lots of time with him before ya have kids to worry about (any dog can be potentially dangerous, the problem with Pit Bulls is the incredible power of their jaws). Some Pit Bulls can be very gentle.
