I could, but I was thinking of something a bit less vulgar. She's only four. ;-) :-b

Ah I see.

Well, if you have a spare glass baby bottle, you could show her a vacuum.

If you find take an hardboiled egg (with the shell removed), stand the bottle up, toss a lit match in the bottle, and quickly put the egg on top of the bottle (the egg should normally be big enough to just sit on top of the opening), the heat should create a vacumm and suck the egg into the bottle, although the hole is too small.

I think...

Better google this one for exact instructions. ;-)

Yeah, I will laugh when he comes on here and says that the egg exploded all over them. :-b :-b

Here are the instructions fully.

This is a great science experiment that you can do with the kids.

---------------------------------------------

Materials Needed:

An apple juice bottle or cider bottle
Newspaper
Matches
A hard boiled egg
Sauce Pot

-------------------------------------------------

Instructions:

Wash and dry the juice bottle.
Peel the egg.
Cut or tear the newspaper into strips.
Place the strips into the juice bottle.
Light the strips on fire. Adult supervision required.
When the paper starts to burn, place the egg over the opening of the bottle.
Wait.....keep waiting....
The egg will be pressed inside the bottle with a loud pop!
The pressure in the bottle was reduced when the fire used up the oxygen inside. The force of the air pressure outside of the bottle, pushed the egg inside.

That's another good one! I remember my science teacher doing that in school when I was a kid. Good find. ;-D

mentos and diet coke :-b

it might not be quite the fun instant reaction you're looking for, but if you place an egg (with the shell still on) in a bowl of vinegar for a few days it will get really big and rubbery

you can also mix large amount of cornstarch with a small amount of water (i forget the exact ratios) and get a cool product. basically you can roll it into a ball and watch it melt again, or if you try to jam a finger through it it resists you but you can push it right through with little preassure
