It's not a bad sig at all. I like it, but it could definitely have a better flow to it. The two sides have a little too much contrast between them IMO, but I like it still. Nice job.
i like the text - the font, the size, the location.
great lighting/smoke effect but the side lighting on his jaw maybe needs to be softened a bit.
and maybe there should be just a teeny weeny bit of lighting on the left shoulder too (right part of your sig) or maybe apply some smoke too so that the black part wont appear too strong.

I used brushes, but not how you may think. There are several black, white, & brown layers that I erased using a grunge brush. I guess there is not much difference between brushing or erasing with a brush, I just found it easier to get the effect I was looking for.

Yeah, I have found that erasing with brushes usually turns out better than putting the color on with brushes. I don't know why, but it just does.
