Parent of the Year: Alec Baldwin

Postby Omaha Red Sox » Sat Apr 21, 2007 10:07 am

Unfortunately, Alec Baldwin can't claim he had the wrong number.

A voicemail recording was circulated online Thursday in which the 30 Rock star insults his 11-year-old daughter, Ireland, after the child purportedly missed her dad's scheduled phone call, in which he calls her a "rude, thoughtless pig."

"Once again, I have made an ass of myself trying to get to a phone. You have insulted me for the last time!" Baldwin said accusingly in the recording, reportedly made Apr. 11 and obtained by TMZ.

Baldwin added: "I don't give a damn that you're a 12-year-old or 11-year-old or a child, or that your mother is a thoughtless pain in the ass who doesn't care about what you do as far as I'm concerned...The crap you pull on me with this goddamn phone situation that you would never dream of doing to your mother, and you do it to me constantly over and over again!"

The Golden Globe winner then threatened/offered to fly from New York to Los Angeles "for the day just to straighten you out on the issue."

According to TMZ, Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Maren Nelson, who has been presiding over the actor and ex-wife Kim Basinger's increasingly sordid custody battle, temporarily suspended Baldwin's visitation rights Wednesday after hearing the tape.

A source close to the actor told E! News that he "spoke to his daughter right after this happened and they have worked things out."

Baldwin, meanwhile, has opted to shut up for now.

"In the best interest of the child, Alec will do what the mother is pathologically incapable of doing...keeping his mouth shut and obeying the court order," a spokesman for Baldwin said in a statement, referring to Nelson's order to keep the details of the very estranged couple's custody battle under wraps.

"The mother and her lawyer leaked this sealed material in violation of a court order," the statement continued. "Although Alec acknowledges that he should have used different language in parenting his child, everyone who knows him privately knows what he has been put through for the past six years."

"The voicemail speaks for itself," said Annett Wolf, Basinger's spokeswoman.

Lawyers for the actors did not immediately comment.

Baldwin and Basinger's divorce became final in 2002, but they have been hammering out custody issues ever since. The story took an increasingly nasty turn in 2005 when both parents started attacking the other's mental fitness, with Baldwin saying Basinger had a "pathological need" to keep Ireland away from him and Basinger accusing Baldwin of being a bully who needed psychological evaluation.

Nelson ordered both actors to undergo counseling in June.

During Wednesday's closed-door hearing, Nelson also refused to grant Basinger's motion to dismiss a contempt of court charge for violating terms of the custody agreement last fall.

The L.A. Confidential Oscar winner pleaded not guilty to the dozen misdemeanor infractions on Oct. 4 and waived her right to attend her trial, when or if it ever takes place. The statute of limitations on the charges is August 2008. Basinger is facing up to 60 days in jail and a $12,000 fine if convicted on all counts.

The next hearing on visitation issues is scheduled for May 4.

Hey, I want to tell you something, OK? And I want to leave a message for you right now. 'Cause again, it's 10:30 here in New York on a Wednesday, and once again I've made an ass of myself trying to get to a phone to call you at a specific time. When the time comes for me to make the phone call, I stop whatever I'm doing and I go and I make that phone call. At 11 o'clock in the morning in New York and if you don't pick up the phone at 10 o'clock at night. And you don't even have the G**damn phone turned on. I want you to know something, OK?

I'm tired of playing this game with you. I'm leaving this message with you to tell you you have insulted me for the last time. You have insulted me. You don't have the brains or the decency as a human being. I don't give a damn that you're 12 years old, or 11 years old, or that you're a child, or that your mother is a thoughtless pain in the ass who doesn't care about what you do as far as I'm concerned. You have humiliated me for the last time with this phone.

And when I come out there next week, I'm going to fly out there for the day just to straighten you out on this issue. I'm going to let you know just how disappointed in you I am and how angry I am with you that you've done this to me again. You've made me feel like s**t and you've made me feel like a fool over and over and over again. And this crap you pull on me with this G**damn phone situation that you would never dream of doing to your mother and you do it to me constantly and over and over again. I am going to get on a plane and I am going to come out there for the day and I am going to straighten your ass out when I see you. Do you understand me? I'm going to really make sure you get it. Then I'm going to get on a plane and I'm going to turn around and come home. So you'd better be ready Friday the 20th to meet with me. So I'm going to let you know just how I feel about what a rude little pig you really are. You are a rude, thoughtless little pig, OK?

I think he must have felt like crap immediately after it got out to the media. More important things to worry about in the world though.

Hes obviously frustrated with, judging by the language, something that has become pattern with his daughter, not answering his calls, not returning his calls, ignoring him etc. Still he was totally out of line cursing and threatening an 11 year old. Also insulting her mother calling her a "pain in the ass" to her was absolutely uncalled for. He maybe could have gotten a bit of a pass if it wasn't for the "thoughtless little pig" part at the end. That is just disgusting.

"Thoughtless little pig"?

"You don't have the brains or the decency as a human being?"

That's just sick. I mean, ok, you are frustrated, but calling your daughter those things, or anybody those things is just sick. :-t

I'm really shocked because Hollywood marriages are usually much more convivial than this. How amazing that Alec and Kim would be having this spat, and that they would bring their daughter into it. I have full confidence that, despite this, their daughter will grow up to be a perfectly normal, perfectly healthy individual.

She probably was being a rude little piglet :-b But I agree, Baldwin definitely needed a better choice of words...

I would imagine it's tough disciplining a spoiled 11-year old and getting her to do even a simple task like returning her father's phone calls when he is 3000 miles away in New York...Not to mention the mother hates him so she probably doesn't lift a finger to enforce Alec's reasonable requests...

I personally think she needed a little butt whoopin' when she was little and she might be a little more mindful of her parents...But so many people are against that, Alec would probably get ripped for spanking her too....
