Controller syncing- xbox 360

For some reason my controller won't sync with my xbox 360. Any reason why this might be happening?

Did you press the two buttons, one on the controller and the other on the 360? Are the batteries fresh?

I recharged the batteries. I pressed the button on the controler and the one on the consel that is next to where the memory cards go. Are those the right 2?

Yeah those are the two buttons. I don't know what's wrong then, sorry

Well, I pressed basically every button and it started working now. So, I'm not really sure which one it was that worked, but the good thing is, it's working.
