Q & A WITH JACOB BENDER
Jacob Bender is an offensive tackle from Nicholls State who brings intriguing upside.

Josh Buchanan: How are you feeling with just two weeks left to this whole process?

Jacob Bender: I am feeling anxious and excited. At the same time I just want it to hurry up and come. I have been working hard and going on all of these visits. I am not nervous yet but I probably will a couple days before the draft.

Josh Buchanan: What teams have shown the most interest?

Jacob Bender: Seattle, Cincinnati and Jacksonville.

Josh Buchanan: What were the best workout numbers you produced?

Jacob Bender: My best 40 was a 5.03, my vertical was 30 1/2 inches, my broad jump was 8'11 1/2, bench press were 27 reps, short shuttle was 3.50, and 3-cone was a 7.55.

Josh Buchanan: How have teams said you will fit best in the NFL?

Jacob Bender: They said I will have to develop a little bit but everybody says I will be a left tackle because of the way I move my feet. I have good bend and athleticism. One team did say I might move to right tackle and be the strong run blocker type guy.

Josh Buchanan: What's your plan for watching the draft?

Jacob Bender: I will be in Maryland at my house.

New York Jets added Clemson WR Chansi Stuckey in Round 7.

Stuckey, 5'10", 185 pounds, led the Tigers in '06 with 50 receptions for 700 yards despite missing three games and became the first receiver to earn back-to-back All Atlantic Coast Conference honors in more than 25 years (Perry Tuttle 1980-81).

"Chansi is a good player who fell to the 7th round," said Jets director of player personnel Terry Bradway. "We think he has a chance to be a slot receiver for us."

I think this OT guy has a shot to replace Clement as our starting RT in 2008. He supposedly has a lot of upside as he is big, strong, and athletic, and could be the run blocker we need on the right side. I like.


I also like this WR, he seems like he could develop into a good #3 for us.

Yeah they seem to like Bender's position flexibility as he could play guard as well as tackle for this team. I agree that he is probably our RT in 2008.

As far as Stuckey goes, he dropped due to his injury history but they see him as being our slot receiver. He has very good speed.

Don't know much about these 2 so:

A great specimen with size and growth potential, Bender is a terrific developmental prospect. Offers a lot of upside and could reap big dividends for a team who is patient with him.

Biography:
Three-year starter awarded All-Conference honors the past two years.

Pos:

Nice-sized, athletic blocker flying under the radar. Quick off the snap, explosive at the point and moves well around the field. Fights throughout the action and effectively uses body positioning as well as blocking angles to seal defenders from the action. Patient in pass protection, plays with good balance and knocks defenders to the ground. Nasty and always looking for someone to hit.

Neg:

Does not finish blocks and must improve the strength of his base. Does not redirect well to linebackers on the second level.

A potential slot receiver at the next level, Stuckey has the ability to create yardage after the reception and produce as a punt returner.

Biography:
Three-year starter awarded All-Conference honors after catching 50/700/3. Missed time last season with a foot injury. Junior receiving totals were 64/770/4.

Pos:

Elusive pass catcher with ability as a return specialist. Gets separation from defenders, displays good eye/hand coordination and for the most part makes the reception away from his frame. Nicely adjusts to the errant throw running full speed, catching the ball without breaking stride. Alters the game with his ability to return punts.

Neg:

Does not show a physical nature to his game. Not a sturdy wide out who can take a pounding. Loses out in battles.
