How do we feel about taking this to great debates?

Postby skibrett15 » Thu May 03, 2007 7:36 pm

Clearly there's no optimal way to pit these two teams against each other, but what about matchups in great debates? Have each team owner plead their case, then have a different owner that isn't involved in the matchup point out the deficiencies in each squad. Then put it to a vote. Could be interesting, and I'm sure not every one of us would want to do that so that would limit the teams and make the process shorter. Obviously it isn't an objective decision because there are biases about certain players, and some owners aren't as good debaters as others, but it could be fun to pit these squads against each other.

I like the idea, but if we're going to involve a neutral party, let's let outsiders into the debating ;-D

I just figured we should give ourselves a chance to point out how we think a bunch of players we drafted form a team.

Yeah. We should state our cases as let the normals do some debating.

Yeah. I think we need to make a conscious effort to send someone who isn't gonna pick in a while a short list of picks if you are 2 or 3 guys away from picking.

It's an interesting idea, but we're a LONG way from having to worry about the "best" way to match these teams up.

I think once I have Madden '08 I may enter these rosters in, auto draft the scrubs, turn off injuries and fatigue, and sim a season just for s***ts and giggles.

I know, I'm pathetic and have no life. :~(

I can see 'Ol What's-Her-Face now...

"What are you doing"?

"Simulating the Reshuffle".

"And that takes 11 Hours Why?"

"It would have only taken 10, but I had to go get more beer".

I like the idea of a Madden simulated tournament. That would allow somewhat for the unexpected, so to speak.

However, to make this truly a cafe special feature, it would be really cool to include this in the debates, as mentioned earlier. It could get pretty involved if we get the right people.

For example, we could start with assigning one person per team to debate within a division. One by one (NFC East, NFC North, etc.) we could have people debate the teams in that division and then open a vote for the whole cafe. The team with the most votes wins the division. After all four division winners are selected in the NFC and AFC, two wild card teams would be selected (whoever has the next most votes from the division contests). Then, we have a playoff very similar to the NFL playoff, where teams face each other (voting deciding each matchup) all the way to the SuperBowl. May be a tall task, but I think it would be cool in that it would simulate the NFL, would get other cafe members involved in this whole process, leave room for anything to happen (the best team may not always win -- sort of like parity in the NFL), and be a neat side game to the NFL offseason.

What do you all think?
