the madden simulated tournament is a great idea, but it really isnt. Madden it is all about what stats EA has posted for the players and isnt completely reflective about real life.
Madden 07 is built on speed and height, having these 2 together with a crummy player(cant name them since they arnt drafted yet) can actually have a bigger advantage over other players like steve smith. Smith is money with his 97 speed in the game, but since he is so short, without us usering his catches, tall safeties like watkins or tall crummy CB's own him in the madden world. i want to name a bunch of players with very high speed and height that are crummy in real life that would dominate in madden, but i cant since they arnt drafted yet....lets just say most of them prolly wont even be drafted, so that just tell you right there how this wouldnt be very fair.
so really i dont think the madden sim will work, if we knew it was going to be a madden based sim league....Vick, Moss, Champ, Mcnabb all woulda been in the 1st 5 picks.
I'm not saying this wouldnt be cool to do for fun....i actually think it would be cool kilroy to do this for fun, i just want to hammer it out that it shouldnt be measured upon the madden sim

However, to make this truly a cafe special feature, it would be really cool to include this in the debates, as mentioned earlier. It could get pretty involved if we get the right people.
For example, we could start with assigning one person per team to debate within a division. One by one (NFC East, NFC North, etc.) we could have people debate the teams in that division and then open a vote for the whole cafe. The team with the most votes wins the division. After all four division winners are selected in the NFC and AFC, two wild card teams would be selected (whoever has the next most votes from the division contests). Then, we have a playoff very similar to the NFL playoff, where teams face each other (voting deciding each matchup) all the way to the SuperBowl. May be a tall task, but I think it would be cool in that it would simulate the NFL, would get other cafe members involved in this whole process, leave room for anything to happen (the best team may not always win -- sort of like parity in the NFL), and be a neat side game to the NFL offseason.
What do you all think?
I thought this was the plan all along? That is the format we were going to use when we attempted this the first time around.

Oh I agree with you completely Alk. The ratings in Madden are as FUBAR as not, and as you said certainly aren't reflective of "real life".
That said, if I have time I may do it anyway just for s***s and giggles. If nothing else it gives me an excuse to buy Madden '08.

That would be pretty cool..but could a downside be we are taking our subjectivity out of it and suddenly it becomes about how they ranked the players?
Just a thought, not to mention the incredible amount of time that would take, especially when this might finish it might actually be football season.

Well, I for one certainly wouldn't recommend basing selections on some silly Madden simulation that I may or may not actually do.
I'm also considering making a Madden Team based on the Cafe's "Starting Lineup".
What can I say? I love football, and have no life.

It may have been the plan. I wasn't really involved in this whole process until the bitter end when there were open teams and Swiper was begging me to jump in. (I'm glad he did).
When it comes to this, I guess great minds think alike!
I was practically begging anything with a pulse last time. It had gotten that bad and that out of hand. I was happy we got all the quality replacements we did. Just was the life was all sucked out of it. And it wasn't fair to the replacements to get to come in and just pick people after the top players were all gone.
