Just saw this on CNN - some punk beats this guy in a carjacking while witnesses atanding several feet away do nothing. Known as the "bystander" or "Genovese" effect (should be called the "coward" effect).
Man Charged In Beating Of 91-Year-Old
May 14, 2007
A 91-year-old man is recovering after he was attacked by a carjacker, police said.
Deontae Bradley, 22, was formally charged with felony carjacking and assault Friday.
According to police, Bradley stole Leonard Sims' car and beat him repeatedly in the face.
Sims, a retired World War II veteran, said he does not believe the charges are harsh enough.
"He could have killed me. He should be charged with attempted murder," Sims said.
He also said it is a sad state of society that there were so many people standing by watching and not doing anything.
He does have a message for Bradley, "I would say turn his life around. Go to school. Get a job and work for a liiving, not steal it."
Bradley is in the Wayne County Jail on $75,000 bond.
I just noticed the video link. Wished I hadn't opened it. Terrible. I was sick before I saw the people standing around the other car, but that just made it that much worse. The one guy was freaking huge and could have easily convinced the piece of garbage to leave, probably without even touching him. People don't seem to care about anything that doesn't involve them anymore. Stomper's narcissist article comes to mind.
This made me feel sick. What a dispicable thing. The people that just stand there without doing anything are almost as sick as the person who beat him.
Whatever about the guy who was beating up the old dood, that happens and there are sick people everywhere that do crazy and stupid stuff like that.
However, my mind can't fathom how somebody could stand by and watch that happen. My mind most CERTAINLY can't grasp how five people could watch that happen. I have come really close to getting involved in a confrontation when it was just a shouting match road rage in a parking lot. I was REAL close to getting involved there and there weren't punches thrown or a sick thing like a 22 year old beating up a 92 year old.
