As several others have already stated, gotta go with "The Dude"!!!
Also like just about any character Steve Buscemi plays (great in his starring role in Trees Lounge which he also directed). He always plays the bad guy, creep, deadbeat, loveable loser, psycho, sex deviate, no-good brother-in-law, etc.

Washington in Remember the Titans is excellent.
Some other favorites of mine include,
Harrison Ford as Han Solo in the three original star wars movies
Ford as Indiana Jones
Mel Gibson in The Patriot
Kevin Costner and James Earl Jones in Field of Dreams

Metroid wrote:Every character in True Romance mostly Christopher Walken and Dennis Hopper, the exchange between them in the trailer was epic.
Wow, you nailed that Met. I can't believe the fact that I was going with the same scene.
No doubt, the scene with James Gandolfini and Patricia Arquette where he beats the crap out of her has some great dialog too. Also Bronson Pinchots scenes were great. The cast in that movie was simply incredible...
Christian Slater
Patricia Arquette
Michael Rapaport
Val Kilmer
Bronson Pinchot
Dennis Hopper
Gary Oldman
Brad Pitt
Tom Sizemore
Christopher Walken
Samuel L. Jackson
Saul Rubinek
James Gandolfini
Chris Penn
Kevin Corrigan
Three other great characters from the same flick are Johnny Depp as George Jung, Cliff Curtis as Pablo Escobar and Jordi Mollà as Diego Delgado in Blow. I Love that film.
How Ed Norton's character from Primal Fear has not come up is beyond me. Talk about one of his best performances, and a great character/villain.
William Wallace from Braveheart of course I feel obligated to mention as its my favorite film.
Getting back to villains, how about Al Pacino as Satan in the Devil's Advocate. His speech to convince Keanu Reeves why he should be a bad guy and join him alone makes him one of my favorite characters ever.
"Does Marcellus Wallace look like a b*tch?"
"Then why you try to ---- him like one?"
"Yes you did, Brett, yes you did."
"And Marcellus Wallace don't like to be ----ed by anybody but Mrs Wallace."
