Keeper League..keep as many players as you want!

Postby Darth Vader » Wed May 23, 2007 1:01 pm

We are entering year 3 in our keeper and this year we are modifying the rules.

We ended the season in '06 with 15 players on every roster. This year we are expanding to 18 rounds, with the bottom 3 rounds being stricktly a rookie developmental lroster. The D-roster will be able to play as the manager wants, but are 3 rookies must be kept throughout the entire year.

We are also letting everyone keep as many players as they want as long as:

each player must advance 2 draft spots higher in order to be kept on the lineup, and the top 3 rounds must get kicked back into the draft pool.

Ex: Lets say Maroney becomes a 10 year Hall of Fame back,

2006 10th Round pick Maroney
2007 8th Round pick Maroney
2008 6th Round Maroney
2009 4th Round Pick Maroney
2010 2nd Round Pick Maroney
2011 Player moved back into draft pool

Also, if you keep a player who you aquired via free agancy, that player can be drafted no later than the 10th round. If a team has more than 1 FA, then the process continues to the 9th round...and so on.

Ex
Coulston-Undrafted FA in 2006
M Drew-Undrafted FA in 2006

To keep both of these players in 2007 they would take up your 10th and 9th round picks

if you keep them in 2008 the will take your 7th and 8th round picks..etc

I am very excited about this change and I welcome all suggestions on problems that might arise or hints as to make it more sleek.

If you read very closely you will see it has nothing to do with the question.

After I wrote my thoughts down I saw the poll question option. On ESPN was the Moss subject, so I threw in a question too......a two-fer if you will,

Anyway no one has given any criticism about my plan so that might be a good thing.

Just a few questions to clear up some things. You may have told your league this, but if not they are questions to think about.

The rookie draft:
Can you only draft rookies those rounds or if I want Calvin earlier, can I take him in round 7 of the regular draft?
Can I keep my drafted rookies from rounds 16-18 as rookies into the next year at the same spot I drafted them?
If I can keep them, how long do they classify as RDL (Rookie Developmental League)?

Regular roster:
You say the top three rounds must be kicked back to the draft, but your example shows Maroney as a second round pick in 2010? Why was he not back in the draft?
Or do you mean the players drafted year in and year out in the top 3 rounds are the ones who get kicked back into the draft?

Aside from those question's it looks like everything else would work. My only suggestion would be to make sure that every single owner is on board 100% because changes like these can cause problems if even one owner isn't happy about it.

Wouldn't this league get to the point were half of your roster basically each year is getting thrown back? and theres not enough rounds to fill the 18 player roster? Eventually?
