An important thing that I've recently come to realize is how important it is to exercise in the mornings. It sets your metabolism where you'd want it for the rest of the day and you don't have something to dread the entire day because it's over.
A punching bag, or something similar, is a great cardio workout that strengthens the muscles needed to kick ass.
