05/25 Cowboys: Witten expects more red zone action
The News
Cowboys tight end Jason Witten scored only one touchdown in 2006. He expects to better than total in 2007. "I can do more in the red zone. With the new offense, there is going to be more of an emphasis for that," Witten tells the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "Bill (Parcells) liked to run in the red area because it's fewer chances to turn the ball over. We will be in more of an attack mode."
Our View
New head coach Wade Phillips came from San Diego, and offensive coordinator Jason Garrett previously worked in Miami. Both of these guys know how valuable a good tight end can be, and it won't be surprising if Witten is free to run more routes in the red zone. Jason's comments also suggest Marion Barber might not get as many goal line looks
