Offseason pick up (Calvin Johnson)

Postby ffootball07 » Sat Jun 09, 2007 9:42 pm

I have a situation in my league in which someone picked up rookie WR Calvin Johnson off free agency. Someone noticed it on the transaction report. While I don't know why Sportsline would let anyone sign free agents in the offseason, particularly rookies, should I reverse this add/drop? My gut feeling says I should. Any thoughts?

Well, you didn't give any details about your league. If it is a dynasty or keeper league, which is my guess (hopefully you wouldn't be asking this question in a redraft league :b ), then no rookies are eligible for free agency until after the rookie draft. So if you haven't had your rookie draft, then yes reverse it. Or contact sportsline and let them know they screwed up.

We keep up to 2 players per season and the rest of the players are available in a re-draft from the rest of the pool. However I didn't post a message or let the league know that pick ups were back on though.

So this is a light keeper league so to speak.

I guess I'm confused, then. If you can keep 2 players from your roster and then redraft...then there shouldn't be any FA activity until after the draft. So #1, CJ isn't eligible for FA and #2, there shouldn't be an FA activity anyway. Unless you've already held your draft and CJ wasn't drafted, no one should be able to pick him up off the waiver wire. That move should be voided.

We have not held our draft yet.

THe league members want to keep up to 2 players each year from their rosters. Say if you draft Carson Palmer in 3rd round, and you want to keep him, you lose a 3rd round pick. Since Calvin Johnson was not drafted or on anyone's roster in 2006, in my opinion I need to reverse it.

Any other ideas?

yep, there is no question you should reverse that pickup and make sure everyone knows from now on...

Easy one, reverse it...everyone in your league SHOULD know that there is no free agency during the off-season or before the draft...and if you get any complaints (my guess would be there would be none), give 'em da boot!

There shouldn't be any free agency activity before your draft, so this is a pretty simple decision: reverse it.

Today I reversed the transaction. No one seems to have a problem with it.
