Culpepper to Green Bay??? No!!!

Postby Warpigs » Mon Jun 18, 2007 1:42 pm

Dante Culpepper's name has been linked to the Packers according to news on http://www.cnnsi.com 's truth and rumors section as Favre's primary backup this year and the heir apparent to the QB for the future. Tell me, if this guy can't get it done in a QB-starved city like Miami, why in the world would he be considered for Green Bay?

unless they feel they have nothing in rodgers it's probably a good deal of rumor.i think j-ville still seems to be his future destination .

I really put this on the rumor wagon. I just can't see this making any sense.

But you do have to realize: we are dealing with Ted Thompson here.

I doubt this happens... If the Pack really intends to carry Favre, a 1st round draft pick, and Culpepper at QB they are killing an ENORMOUS amount of cap room on a position that realistically only (1) guy can fill at a time...

Why not? Who wouldnt want a Culpepper as their backup QB versus what else is out there for backups? If he'd go for a cheap salary he's potentially someone the Pack could build around for a few years before someon else emerges after Favre.

I'm with you. Way too much cap room tied up in the QB position...then again, they have the room because they don't sign anybody in the offseason. :-b

Whats up Lo?

Cpepp is a bad QB fellas - its not because he was injured either (although that clearly adds to it).

In 2005, before his injury, after MIN traded Moss and switched offensive schemes to a WC variation, Culpepper was exposed badly as someone who had a very hard time reading defenses, his accuracy came under serious scrutiny, and questionmarks about his ability to learn a new offensive scheme are still out there. The truth is Culpepper built his reputation in a dump and chuck offense and since that was dismantled he will probably never play more than half a season as any team's starting QB unless its an uncanny recreation of Min's offense pre 2005.

Add to that his obvious injury issues and I seriously doubt any team will take on his contract. When he does sign a new contract I'm sure the team will protect themselves by having it heavily incentive based.
