What's the current DE/OLB situation?

Postby benb18a » Mon Jul 09, 2007 3:42 pm

Apparently Ellis has moved to OLB opposite Ware, which I like very much... however, last I heard about Spencer earlier this week on ESPN, he is also a LB. This doesn't make very much sense; I would like to see him on the line opposite Marcus Spears, and according to the nfl.com depth chart he is still a DE. Does anybody have any legitimate information on this situation?

The Cowboys drafted insurance in Spencer if Ellis was unable to recover from his injury (he played OLB last year as well, and very efficiently) to make the transition from a 4-3 DE to a 3-4 OLB. Spencer may play DE in the Nickel, but he's still going to be playing OLB if/when Ellis is healthy enough to retake his starting position.
