With Thurman's reinstatement looming, what is the word on Brooks playing time this year? He has been slated as the starter up until now.

Thurman's reinstatment is still up in the air, but I see him re-joining the team, but I don't expect him to be a full-time starter (aka, more time than Brooks and Landon Johnson)

While Thurman may be back, Pollack has been decleared out for the season, which bodes well for Brooks, although no Bengal fan is happy to hear that....
Bengals LB's are pretty thin outside of Thurman, Brooks, Pollack, Landon Johnson, and Hartwell...and one of those wont be playing, one other may not be playing, I'm scared of Hartwell's injury history and recent level of perfomance. Johnson and Brooks are the two locks for some playing time this season ;-D

Thurman
Indications are Bengals middle linebacker Odell Thurman won't hear if he'll be let back into the NFL until some time next week at the earliest.

Wednesday was the first day the league could rule on his application for reinstatement after serving a one-year suspension for violations of the NFL's substance abuse policy. But one of his agents, Safarrah Lawson, said Wednesday there was no news.

Also Wednesday, according to Fox 19 in Cincinnati, Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis confirmed to a Savannah, Ga., TV station what had been long suspected but he wouldn't address with local media. David Pollack, Thurman's Georgia teammate, won't play in 2007 as he recovers from a broken neck.

According to the station, Lewis wouldn't rule out a return for '08.

Lawson and NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Wednesday they weren't aware of a meeting in which commissioner Roger Goodell has called in Thurman before ruling on the case. Aiello reiterated it's not required in the process.

Lawson is confident his client is going to be reinstated, in part, because he hasn't been informed of any violations of the rehab program.

The decision figures to come in time for Thurman to know if he'll be able to report with the rest of the Bengals July 26 to training camp.

"All indications are that to this point Odell has not had any violations of the drug program and we're hopeful that his application is going to be accepted," Lawson said.

Thurman was great as a rookie, and the Bengals severally need to field the best LBs they can. With Pollack out, I think both Thurman and Brooks could see the field with one shifting to Will.

Brooks is in the middle. Book it. He has been at the facilities all offseason getting in shape, studying the playbook, and going through mini-camps...These are thinngs he missed last offseason since he joined the team about 10 days before TC after coming off an injury...

Odell has a long haul to even make it through training camp if he hasn't been working out....His only spot to see the field is on the weak side....He'll have to outplay Landon Johnson, Ed Hartwell, Caleb Miller, and others....If he returns to rookie form, the job is his....I'd say it's 50/50 that he regains that level of play...
