Sorry to hear that news, lmcjaho. Very sad :~(

Just try and focus on his long life with a loving family and how happy a puppy he was. Hang in there.

Thanks guys.

It was a very tough decision and to be honest I still was feeling bad about doing it until we took him on Monday. We put him on the scale when we walked in and he weighed in at 89lbs. 89 freakin' pounds. He was 145lbs healthy in that last pic I posted of him to give you an idea of how much it hurt me to see his weight Monday.

Our vet gave him a sedative to take the stress off and make him more lethargic so he could attach an IV to inject the euthanizing agent. Between waiting for the sedative to take effect and holding him while the vet administered the injection it was a very rough morning. I'm sure he's feeling a lot better somewhere now though.

Still feels weird to go to the fridge and not have to give him a toe in the gut to get his ass out of the way so I can open the door... :,-(

His remains were ready for pickup today so he got to go for one last car ride... Flowers in the background are from Valentines Day but I thought it made for a nice pic... :,-(

You'll see him and hear him alot. I can hardly finish a meal without nearly putting the plate on the floor for Buster. Grieving him will be a long process. Putting your dog down is a loving, but very painful experience.

Hang in there bro. Diesel was fortunate to have you.

This is obviously a bit belated, but I'm not as regular as I used to be. Sorry to hear about Diesel, sounds like a hell of a dog.

I'm late as well, but my deepest sympathies on Diesel's passing. I think losing a beloved long time animal family member might be harder than losing a human family member. My Ginger is still in pretty good health but she's nearing the 13 year mark and I know that things can change drastically very rapidly. I know I'll be a sobbing mess when she goes....I tear up just thinking about not having her around. Ugh. Damn you dogs! Why can't you live as long as we do!?!?!

...and less than 10 months after my last post, my sweet Ginger has passed. We were practically inseparable for the better part of a decade and a half. Deciding to let her go was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do....but she was ready. She went peacefully, at home, with her head in my lap, and knowing she was so very loved. Thank you Ginger for being my best friend and companion for all these years. You were truly an amazing creature. Be at peace now my sweet girl, daddy loves you forever. :,-(
